While modern plastic windows are an acceptable option, they should not be used in older character properties.  Using them in older buildings will dull the overall charm of the building. They will also appear out of place. In fact, UPVC windows can adversely affect the market value of a property if not appropriate to the building. Those benefits that can be derived from plastic windows like double glazing, weather seals can be enjoyed in wooden windows as well.  Plastic windows are also a problem with regards to recycling as they have an approximate lifespan of 20 years or less. Wooden windows on the other hand can last much longer.
